Overseas Trip - Portugal 2025 - Overseas Captain Matt Smith
Wednesday 7th May to Tuesday 13th May
Vilamoura
Pinheiros Altos - Millenium - Ombria - Vale Do Lobo Royal
A fantastic time was had by all in Portugal and the 2025 Overseas trip.
20 CGS members made their way to Vilamoura to play for the coveted trophy.
There were lots of games, competitions and surprise in store from Overseas Captain Matt Smith.
This year Matt had arranged 3 tour shirts in conjunction with

Royal & Awesome are a golf clothing company who supply amazing kit to really make you stand out on the course and boy did we stand out!
To add to a twist to the trip it was 10 players making up team USA and it was 10 players making up team Europe on a match play game basis but with combined stableford points per hole per pair. This most definitely spiced the trip up with crossing buggies around the courses with players in their team shirts all asking how everyone was getting on. There were lots of hand gestures for the leaders and the losers to get an idea of who was winning their matches.
After the 3 rounds (the 4th round and last day was order of merit for single players to play for the individual trophy) it came out an amazing 10/10 draw!!
The only way to distinguish a winner was to add each teams total player total stableford points together for the 3 rounds and it was a very narrow victory TEAM EUROPE with just 7 points the difference. So many other golfers from around the world asked where we got our team shirts from and were dually pointed to the Royal & Awesome website.
From everyone on the overseas trip a massive thank you to El Capitano Overseas 2025 Matt Smith for all of his hard work, planning, enthusiasm and very kind gestures in prizes, games and giveaways. Likewise a huge thank you to Colin Lewin for organising another wonderful trip.
Sunshine, golf, lovely food, music, sandy beaches, boat trips, laughs a plenty, memories, happy faces, friends and a few bob for the charity pot - what more could you want.
We are delighted to announce that next years Overseas Captain is - Martyn Taylor.
Our thanks once again to Royal and Awesome and H&L Graphics for the charity donation of banners for the trip.
Cannot wait for next year already!
Please note this trip is run separately from the CGS society as a whole
