Dear Members of the CGS,

 

It gives us great pleasure in announcing further details of this years “Invitational Day”.

 

Last year saw the first invitational day launched and it was a huge success. The driving force behind that was Colin Lewin. We are thrilled to announce that the day will now be known as “The Colin Lewin CGS Invitational Day”

 

As per the previous emails and notices the day will take place on Tuesday 18th August 2026 at Whitehill GC, Ware, Herts – the home of the CGS. We wanted to give you some finer details of the day aside from the usual CGS fixture letter that will be coming out to you so you can get booked in with your guests NOW! We ask to please make payment upon booking in.

 

This is a day for us all to celebrate and promote our amazing society at our home course. A day to all come together where it is hoped we firstly get all members to come to the day as a way of seeing old faces to share some laughs and to also get all members, where possible, to bring a guest with them who could and would be ideal new members for the society. As you will see the day is being run totally different than our usual monthly fixtures with lots of added extras and surprises during the day. This is being run by a sub-committee (with pre-arranged main committee approval) to deliver another celebratory CGS day. A lot of hard work has gone into arranging this day and in order for this to happen WE NEED YOU! Please book in early with the office. We have secured another great deal with Whitehill with a cost per player of just £60 (members and guests)

 

Booking is open now and we are also taking “Hole Sponsors”. We have had a fantastic take up on hole sponsors already so please be quick to secure the remaining available slots. Last year saw some very funny and inventive adverts on the hole sponsor boards on each tee!

 

The days running order (as well as surprises on the day)

8.45am to 9.15am 

Arrival and registration in the foyer – PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS ON ENTRY.

Please book in and collect your score cards, 4ball team quiz sheets, purchase your “Book of little helper vouchers” (*see below) and guests goody bag.

9.00am                                    

Tea / coffee and bacon roll is served

9.40am

Introduction, welcome and a run-down of the day’s events. Holes announced for: nearest the pin, nearest the line, beat the pro Joe, fun quiz information and team photo and putting competition challenge. Are you a “Lucky Putter?” (**see below)

10.30am    

Tee off commences from the 1st and 10th tee. The draw and order of play will be announced in the mornings welcome address.

In the evening and for the meal - FULL CGS attire is required for ALL MEMBERS but please note guest may remain smart casual if they wish to do so but they are equally welcome to wear a shirt and tie. 5.00pm to 5.30pm      

Evening entertainment and called to dinner. A 2 course meal will be served. When booking yourself and guests in, please let the office know of any dietary requirements.

6.30pm (‘ish)

Prize giving and surprise evening entertainment and we are delighted to announce our very special guest is Rick Wakeman!

 

(* A book of vouchers will get you 1 x FREE putt + 1 x FREE drop + 1 x FREE mulligan to use in your round. Details on how you can play each shot voucher with entry details to follow)

(** Are you a “Lucky Putter?” … The practice putting green will be set up with various prizes around the green. 1 x ball will cost just £2 or 3 x balls for £5 … hit a prize with your putt and take the prize away with you!)  

 

As you can see just from the above it really will be a full day (and some extra surprises too) so we ask you to please, please, please:

Please note that 4balls will be arranged and set out by the subcommittee for the day to allow for members and guests to be accommodated. We will of course do everything we can to help everyone and as per last year you do not have to bring a member to play on the day. We want everybody to come along and enjoy another fantastic event! Just let us know in advance.

When booking in guests can we ask that you clear and confirm they are happy to supply their email addresses in order for us to personally thank them for attending and to also send them further info on the CGS. Please note to comply with GDPR no email addresses will be given out to anyone and they will not be contacted other than for CGS matters. Email addresses will be held with CGS Admin only and they can unsubscribe after the invitational day if they wish.
