Sheerness Charity Day - Thursday 18th June 2026​

It was so good to be back at Sheerness Golf Club in Kent for our annual charity day.

​

Sadly we had missed a couple of years but we are back and better than ever. For those CGS members who have never played in this day you really are missing out on a fantastic day. With no bias and in all the charity days I have been to for the CGS I don't think there has been such a mutual friendship and connection with members of a golf club. We are always made so welcome and the members look forward to this day so much.

​

We fielded 20 teams (1 x CGS player with 3 x Sheerness members / guests) on a shot gun start. Miki Travis kindly got the intros of teams for the day underway in true Miki style. Miki is a well known face at Sheerness and the banter and jokes were given and taken in good part. Miki couldn't stay for the day due to other committments but my thanks for coming along early and helping out.

Special mention to Graham Hampsheir for coming to take part and offering to step aside to level teams up. Thank you.

Chris Hare went round the table in the morning dazzling SGC members with his memory man talents. What a great start to the day!

​

Tea / coffee and bacon roll followed by 18 holes on this beautiful links course and nice weather bar a small shower in the middle of the day. Some good and bad golf but laughs a plenty all the way around.

​

A very nice 2 course evening meal of bangers and mash and apple crumble were greatly received and then it was down the prize giving.

​

Congratulations to the winners. I think you will agree it was, as always, a magnificent prize table. Prizes for the best SGC overall winner (42 points) and also the best overall CGS member score. That prize went to Mike "Toyboy" Jerome with a massive 39 points! (polo shirt, glove and balls)

Several nearest the pins and the one on the 17th went to Marc Layton (polo shirt). The 4ball team prizes were great and in 3rd place winning a sleeve of balls, a golf cap and golf glove was lead by CGS member Vernon Ray. In 2nd place winning a polo shirt was Tony Pieri's team and in 1st place winning a brand new stand bag as CGS team leader Richard Pinner.

6 amazing auction items ran superbly by Vernon Ray raising £1450 alone. A brilliant raffle table with the headline 5 items being drawn traditionally with the remainder being drawn and checked later in the evening to speed things up. Thanks to Ding for donating his fit-bit watch prizes back to be auctioned off to raise more funds.

CGS members won different prizes where I actually won a new golf glove and a 4ball voucher for The Weald of Kent golf course.

Sheerness have already said they want us back next year! I will be working on a date with them very soon and will of course get it out to you all very early. As mentioned  - you do not have to be an entertainer to play in this free day out. The SGC members welcome us with open arms. Please come along in 2027 and enjoy a fabulous day out raising funds for our charity pot. Likewise, I will let you know the total raised ASAP from Sheerness.

Once again ... thank you, thank you, thank you to all the players and helpers on the day and here's to next year. I know a lot of you had travelled far and wide to be there and I cannot thank you enough.
